Postnatal Support in London

Hello.

My name is Violet, and I am a postnatal doula living and working in London. I began my journey into birth-work in 2021 and trained with the wonderful Red Tent Doulas. I am blessed to be supported by a network of wise women who continually inspire my approach to this sacred work.

I decided to train as a doula when I became an auntie. I found great fulfilment and joy going over to cook, clean, and care for my sister, her partner and her baby in those tender first weeks. I felt I was putting my kitchen witchery to the best imaginable use! I had been working as a nanny and private chef for some time, thus becoming a doula felt like a deepening and expansion of my skills and knowledge. I studied Social Anthropology at university, and am a certified Yoga teacher. Both practices inform my doula work- Anthropology providing a cross-cultural lens through which to learn about postpartum and childrearing practices and Yoga grounding and centring my energy so that I can be present for the experiences of mothers. I also draw on my personal studies of herbalism, Ayurveda and nutrition.

Over time, it has become increasingly apparent to me just how ill-designed our society is to support mothers. Sadly, our culture, healthcare system, and societal structures are not always able to provide the level and type of care that women need during this most vital time. Thankfully, we are witnessing a shift in attitudes, and traditional postpartum wisdom is increasingly being validated by the latest scientific research. My wish is that all mothers enjoy the bountiful rest, nourishment, and emotional support they deserve. With that as the foundation, the entire family thrives.
